Guide Summary and Photographs

Once more we had a great day at sea in perfect conditions. Our first sighting was a tiny African Penguin that we somehow managed to spot on Dyer Island itself. Over the last few years it has been very hard for us to spot penguins on the Island due to a 90% drop in the population. This little guy was a bit too far off to pick up on most lenses but still a great sighting of the bird in its natural habitat. We then left Dyer Island to say hello to our friendly seal colony on Geyser Rock. The Cape Fur Seal, also known as the Brown Fur seal frequents the cold waters off our west coast all the way up Namibia and are also found in the chilly waters of the Southern Ocean off the South Coast of Australia. Our colony as always put on a show as we watched the mothers, pups and juveniles causing a commotion in and out of the water.

Behind the island was very much for our birders as we spotted some beautiful Cape Gannets, adults and juveniles, also a lone Giant Petrel as we made our back towards the harbour. Our cetaceans seemed not to want to be found today, but nonetheless a great trip out in the amazing Dyer Island Ecosystem.
