While Dickie is world-famous for his numerous appearances on Shark Week, he's better known locally as one of Dyer Island Cruises most knowledgeable skippers.
You might have seen him on Shark Week doing crazy stunts with Great White Sharks, now learn more about Dickie Chivell behind the scenes.
Dickie is an accomplished skipper, a qualified commercial diver as well as scuba diving instructor and has completed his tour guiding course. He is a passionate conservationist and highly knowledgeable on the Marine Big Five of the Dyer Island Nature Reserve in Gansbaai, South Africa. Dickie is a skilled marine life photographer and has completed a short course in video journalism.
Dickie has spent some time working in Baja with the Grey Whales, filmed with Discovery in New Zealand and travelled to various other shark hotspots such as California and Guadalupe. His appearance on Shark Week from 2014-2018 has been a life-changing experience and especially working with the likes of Chris Fallows, Jeff Kurr and Andy Brandy Casagrande. He is a true ambassador of marine conservation and has supported The Dyer Island Conservation Trust with white shark tagging and tracking with Marine Biologist Alison Towner. When he is not skipping a boat or working toward conservation, you will find him on his surfboard catching sick barrels!
