Guide Summary and Photographs
We ran two whale watching tours today and continue to have amazing encounters with the small number of Southern Right whales left in Pearly Beach.
On the first tour we had a very close look at both the Mum and the calf as they came right over to us and under the boat twice.
On the second tour we had a close approach by the calf and then it started showing off all the surface activity possible, breaches, lob-tails, pec-slaps, chin slaps and mouth open! It was an incredible display.
On both tours we saw two Mother and calf pairs and we continue to be amazed by one calf in particular who is very curious around the boat and also can be very surface active. We also got to see a Great white shark and on the first tour this was particularly exciting when one half breached out of the water. We also got to see the awesome Cape Fur seal colony on Geyser Rock on both trips also.
We feel very lucky to be having such a successful end to the Southern Right whale season.
