On a calm, sunny and warm day in Gansbaai we enjoyed two different, but successful whale watching tours.
On the first tour we found a Southern Right whale mother and her calf near Danger Point. This calf was showing us how fit it is by taking quite long dives, but we still enjoyed seeing the Southern Rights as we are getting very close now to the end of their season here in South Africa. We also got to see five adult African penguins sitting on the water and these in turn led us to see a very lucky sight, a Bryde’s whale mother and her calf. This tour also saw a Great white shark at our sister company’s boat Slashfin, as well as the awesome Cape Fur seal colony at Geyser Rock.
On the second tour we headed to Pearly Beach to look for Southern Right whales and again found one Mother and calf pair. We got some nice looks at them not far from shallow water. On the way to the whales we had also got to see a Great White shark. After visiting the seal colony at Geyser Rock and getting to see not only the huge seal colony but also a juvenile African Penguin sitting in Shark Alley, we were incredibly lucky and found a very active group of Bottlenose dolphins. These are a very lucky spot as we don’t get to see them very often. They were leaping around the boat and gave us a spectacular end to the trip.
