On our three whale watching tours today we had pleasant weather but mixed sightings.
On the first tour of the day we were incredibly lucky to find a Southern Right whale mother with her calf near Dyer Island. We got some great looks at the calf in particular, who approached us briefly, but these whales were traveling quite fast during the trip.
Sadly, despite long searches for these whales or any others in a wide area we did not see any other whales on our second and third tours.
However, our third tour was incredibly lucky to see a Great White shark breach right out of the water, right next to our boat. It was so close a few people got the splash!
On our tours we always show people the seal colony at Geyser Rock and our first and third tour were also lucky enough to see some African penguins, on the island in the morning and in the water in the afternoon.
