Did Someone Say Elephant Seal? Marine Big 5 Daily Blog 16 July

Whale Watching near Cape Town, South Africa Welcome to Gansbaai, home of the Marine Big 5.

Trip Summary 16 July 2022:

What a fantastic way to get back out at sea! After a few days of being on land, the weather finally permitted us to go on a marine big 5 adventure. Not long after launching from Gansbaai Harbour this morning, the first trip of the day encountered a Southern Right whale and a juvenile Humpback whale traveling along. Soon after, we caught sights of a Mola Mola (sunfish) and an African Penguin in the deep waters. While traveling we were surprised by another Humpback whale which we were delighted to watch for a few minutes before it went for a deeper dive. Over at geyser rock, the Cape Fur seal colony was buzzing with excitement as we made our way up Shark Alley. Dyer Island had a surprise in store for us when we came across a few African Penguins sitting in the sun and an Elephant Seal in the water close by! The shark cage diving vessels gave us a great look at some Bronze Whaler sharks before we made our way back to the harbour.
