Whale Watching near Cape Town, South Africa Welcome to Gansbaai, home of the Marine Big 5.
Trip Summary 25 February 2025:
Although the day was overcast with wind, we had great sightings in the bay. Along the coast, we spotted the endangered Indian Ocean humpback dolphin. The group was spread out and moving quickly but we could get some good looks at them and even had a few of our well-known animals among them. Just as we left these dolphins behind we spotted bottlenose dolphins. We had a mixed pod with adults, juveniles and a calf slowly travelling alongside our boat. It was just beautiful to observe them so close but eventually, we moved on to the shark cage diving boats to see the Bronze Whaler shark. Our next stop was at Dyer Island to see the penguins and other seabirds. After our usual visit to the Cape fur seals, we continued into the deeper waters. Unfortunately, it was quite difficult to get a look at the Bryde’s whale and only some saw a spout and dorsal fin briefly. Our tour ended with another sighting of the critically endangered African penguin just outside Kleinbaai harbour.
