Guide Summary and Photographs
The whales were beyond our wildest expectations today! Not only did we have repeated breaching and lob-tailing action from little “Patch Adams”, but we found a group of 6 Humpback whales just behind Geyser Rock! One of the humpbacks had some deep scarring running from its dorsal fin down the tail, possibly from having been struck by a ships propeller. It’s always awesome when we get to see more than one whale species but the best whale of the day award goes to one young Southern Right male we nicknamed “Casper the friendly whale”. He appeared, as if out of nowhere, right beside our boat on both the first and second trips of the day. “Casper’s” behaviour suggested he thought he was a lucky young male who had found a single female to mate with. Even though our boat wasn’t the female he was looking for he stayed with us for quite some time giving the clients some amazing memories. As Kira likes to say, today was truly some 5-star whale watching…
