It’s an amazing experience to watch a mother teach her young calf behavioural techniques right before your eyes!  Among the three mother-calf pairs we saw today was “Patch Adams”, who was being very active for us.  As we watched, his mother began to arch her back downwards and “Patch Adams” swam on top of her so she could lift him up, likely teaching him a protective measure for when they make their journey back down to the Antarctic.  It was incredible to watch and from the looks of it “Patch Adams” is going to be a very obedient little calf for the long migration…
