Guide Summary and Photographs
Today was a truly exceptional day on the Whale Whisperer with the Big 5 all seen – whales, dolphins, great whites, seals and penguins. We spotted a pod of bottlenose dolphins in the shallows just meters from the beach. They were very playful and curious for they came up alongside the boat. During this encounter whales were spotted a few meters up ahead. The whales we spotted were Southern Rights, a mother and calf. The calf was very small and was likely to only be a few weeks old. We quickly left the pair alone so as not to disturb them, but came across 3 different whales. Their breeding season has just begun and so the males were likely trying to win the attention of the female. Finally a large great white was spotted next to our sister company Marine Dynamics’ boat before we headed off to Dyer Island to see the cape fur seals and African penguins. A truly satisfying day for all…- Rosie Bowyer (Marine Volunteer)
