Marine Big 5 Daily Blog 17 December

Whale Watching near Cape Town, South Africa Welcome to Gansbaai, home of the Marine Big 5.

Trip Summary 17 December 2023:

We had some great weather with an overcast sky and only a light breeze. After leaving the harbour we were heading down to the coast and were lucky to once again spot some of the Indian Ocean humpback dolphins. They were in quite shallow waters but did approach the boat before they continued hunting small fish. Next up was a stop at the shark cage diving boats, where we saw the Bronze Whaler sharks. Arrived at Dyer Island we made two stops closer by to see the endangered African Penguin. We stopped by Geyser Rock and cruised through Shark Alley to see the Cape fur seal colony and were able to observe thousands of them, some in the water and others on land. Behind the islands it has been rather quiet today so we continued our journey back to Kleinbaai harbour.
