It was flukes galore today! We got off to a bit of a slow start finding the whales this morning, but once we found them the flukes kept coming. It wasn’t only the fully grown Southern Rights showing off their tails, but also one small calf who kept attempting to lobtail. You could see the calf still needs to strengthen the muscles in his tail as he had some difficulty keeping his fluke from flopping over, but it was good effort! As we were on our way back to the harbour from Dyer Island we stopped to pick up an African penguin, it was clear that this little guy had been the unfortunate victim of a rogue seal as it was clearly targeted for its stomach contents. It’s always a sad sight to see…
