Guide Summary and Photographs
We got to watch the spectacular sunrise while out on the water this morning for our first trip. All three trips today were very successful in spotting 4 of the marine big 5! We managed to spot two Southern Right whales relaxing by danger point, a fully grown adult and a juvenile, possibly her calf from last year. The juvenile appeared to have some kind of skin condition as it was covered in scratches from head to tail. On our way to Dyer Island, during our second trip, we picked up an unlucky African penguin that may have been the target of a rogue Cape Fur seal, as the main damage was to the stomach, suggesting it might have been attacked for its stomach contents. We also had fantastic luck with our bird sightings today, as we got to watch a massive flock of Cape Cormorants flying out to fish, as well as spotting a Giant Petrel and beautiful Cape Gannets. It was a gorgeous day to be out on the water…
