Guide Summary and Photographs
The swells were on the larger side and the wind was pumping today, a perfect day for the mothers to exercise their calves in the current! The weather may have encouraged some of the mating whales to move into deeper water, but we found lots of mother calf pairs in the bay still. We could see the mothers using the stronger waters to their advantage by having the calves swim against the current to build up their muscles in preparation for their long migration. It was a total of five different mother calf pairs that we spotted throughout the day, including “Spotty” and his mother who were also using the current as a treadmill. It sure will be sad to see this little guy go at the end of the season…
