A Whale of a time on Whale Whisperer!
Written by Dickie Chivell, August 9 2020

Today we set off on our vessel Whale Whisperer for a Whale of a time and the ultimate whale watching experience.
The weather was beautiful as we headed off in the direction of Danger Point looking out for the Southern Right Whales and naturally we found them relaxing along our coastline.
These gentle giants travel between 2000 – 3000 km’s from the sub-Antarctic feeding waters to their breeding and mating waters in Southern Africa each year.
We floated around watching these giants all the while sharing some knowledge on the whales. After a few minutes admiring the Southern Right whales we headed off to deeper waters to the “Humpback Highway” looking for the energetic Humpback Wales migrating to warmer waters. Luckily enough we had AMAZING sightings of numerous Humpback Whales showing off their beautiful flukes on multiple occasions.
On our way to our Seal Colony and Dyer Island we had amazing bird sightings such as the Roseate Tern; Swift Terns; Gulls; Brown Skua; Cape Cormorants; Bank Cormorants;White-breasted Cormorants; Cape Gannets; Black Oystercatchers; a fleet of Sooty Shearwaters and last but definitely not least the massive Shy Albatross gliding along side our vessel. We also had sightings of at least 3 different Sun Fish !!
Our colony of Cape Fur Seals were welcoming and blew us a few kisses as they haven’t had us around to come look at them show off in the water lately. They adored the attention of the cameras and gave us some heart warming welcoming shows in the water.
We couldn’t end the tour off without showing our guests Dyer Island and the African Penguins which inhabit this island. Luckily enough we found a few of our African Penguins in the water seeing us off.
We continued our journey back to land hugging the coastline enjoying the sea breeze and the feeling of freedom.
We would like the give a big THANK YOU to the guests that joined us today and trusted us to keep them safe and give them a life changing experience!
” Dear Ocean, thank you for making us feel tiny, humble, inspired, and salty… all at once.”
