Today we had two trips launching from Kleinbaai harbour. On both trips it was overcast but it does not affect animal sightings and we had some great seabirds off Danger Point. We saw many White-chinned Petrel, some Sooty Shearwater, Shy and Black-browed Albatross as well as some African Penguin. Of the peninsula we also spotted some humpback whales on our first tour. On the second trip for the day we had to spend a bit more effort in finding the whales but got to see a beautiful animal in a bit of deeper water, even lifting its fluke when taking a dive. On both trips we passed Dyer Island to see more penguins and visited the famous waters of Shark Alley to see the Cape Fur seal colony.

One of the best-known whale species, they are renowned for their acrobatic behaviour and complex melodious song as well as extremely long flippers and are a special favourite of Dyer Island Cruises guests and crew alike.

As one of only 17 penguin species left in the world (and the only one on the african continent), the african penguin often breed in offshore colonies, such as Dyer Island.
