Two species of whale! Marine Big 5 Daily Blog
Written by August 19 2021
Today we had a little bit of swell moving in but we had some great sightings. First, we spotted a humpback whale off Danger Point and then had thousands of Cape Fur seals on Geyser Rock and Shark Alley. Further along the way back towards the mainland we encountered two Southern Right whales close to a reef system. One of the whales was playing with a piece of kelp before both came up close to our vessel Whale Whisperer. After having had a great time out at sea we slowly returned towards Kleinbaai harbour.
What species did we see today?
Humpback Whale Humpback Whale
One of the best-known whale species, they are renowned for their acrobatic behaviour and complex melodious song as well as extremely long flippers and are a special favourite of Dyer Island Cruises guests and crew alike.
