A wild Wednesday! Marine Big 5 daily blog
Written by March 4 2020
A wild Wednesday on sea, as boat, crew and guests launched bright and early onto the bay. Moving through the Shallows eyes were kept on the water in the hopes of encountering some dolphins however with no such luck we moved onto our sister company Marine Dynamics who were on anchor in the bay on their first shark cage diving trip of the day. After this we headed out deep to scan the outer reaches of the bay before making our way towards the islands. Dyer Island and Geyser Rock were both alive with wildlife as we encountered a high number of Giant petrels, African penguins and of course those ever abundant Cape Fur seals.
What species did we see today?
African Penguin African Penguin
As one of only 17 penguin species left in the world (and the only one on the african continent), the african penguin often breed in offshore colonies, such as Dyer Island.
Cape fur seal Cape fur seal
With a local population of 60,000, it's no wonder our guests capture so many photographs of these wonderfully playful marine mammals.
Cape Cormorant Cape Cormorant
One of the most famous species of Cormorant in the Western Cape, the Cape Cormorant is well known for it's beautiful turquoise eye and impressive size.
