An Adventure Out At Sea, 21 October 2019
Written by October 21 2019
This morning started off beautifully with a little wind before we set off on our adventure to find some our marine big 5. Our first encounter was a beautiful Southern Right whale and her young one. The whole boat was captivated by the sight of this majestic creature. Although very calm, the mother proceeded to play with some kelp, picking it up and rolling it along her back. She also gave us a great view of her baleen as she opened her mouth with giving us a short spyhop. We headed off to the shark cage diving vessel and not long after, we had our second sighting of the day; a Bronze Whaler Shark, then a few others appeared as well. Our seals were a delight as we entered Shark Alley and a lot of them were sunbathing on land today while a few were enjoying the water. What a great day we had being able to see 3 of our marine big 5 species.

What species did we see today?
Bronze Whaler Shark Bronze Whaler Shark
The Bronze whaler (also known as Copper sharks) here in Kleinbaai are very curious and interactive. These sharks eat mostly fish, with sardines being one of their favourites.
Southern Right Whale Southern Right Whale
Southern right whales attract thousands of visitors every year to experience these gentle giants off the South African coast.

With a local population of 60,000, it's no wonder our guests capture so many photographs of these wonderfully playful marine mammals.
