Marine Big 5 Daily Blog 03 August

Whale Watching near Cape Town, South Africa Welcome to Gansbaai, home of the Marine Big 5.

Trip Summary 03 August 2023:

A busy day out in the bay today as we launched as the sun came up. The first sighting of the day came in the form of some Southern Right whales, a mother and calf pair that was seen in the shallow areas of the bay, we didn’t stay with this pair too long and after leaving them we came across a mating group of adult Southern Right whales. The second trip of the day had a mix of sightings with not only a Southern Right whale seen but also a Humpback whale. The third and fourth trips of the day both enjoyed close-up views of mating groups of Southern Right whales. Each of our trips had the chance to take a closer look at the island system as we mad some close passes by the Cape fur seals on Geyser Rock and the African penguins on Dyer Island.
