Whale Watching near Cape Town, South Africa Welcome to Gansbaai, home of the Marine Big 5.
Trip Summary 06 August 2023:
A busy day out in the bay again today, we launched with the sun and made our way into the shallows with an early surprise of a lone adult Southern Right whale, calmly and slowly moving along the coast. We enjoyed the views of this whale before leaving it be and made our way through the bay stopping hear and there along the way. We spent the rest of our trip enjoying the island system where we were able to view the African penguin colony of Dyer Island along with the Cape fur seal colony of Geyser Rock. The second trip of the day got an even earlier surprise with what appears to be the same Souther Right whale seen just outside the harbour. The relaxed behaviour of this individual allowed us to spend some time watching it before we headed off. The next bay also held two mother and calf pairs, one very shy, we therefore did not spend much time with them at all and the other whilst very shallow, and enjoying there time in the swell, were quite active and we watch from afar as the calf played in the waves. The trip finished with a visit to the Isands along with views of the African penguins and Cape fur seals.
