Marine Big 5 Daily Blog 07 August

Whale Watching near Cape Town, South Africa Welcome to Gansbaai, home of the Marine Big 5.

Trip Summary 07 August 2023:

Today we started our day quite early once again, but as they say, the early bird gets a whale! And we certainly did. We got to witness an absolutely stunning sunrise in the morning with the sun coming through the mist over land, we headed straight to Pearly Beach to try and find some whales, and after some searching, we came across a mother and a calf pair of Southern Right whales. We didn’t spend too long with them not to disturb the little one. The Island system was as always welcoming with some stunning Cape Fur seals sightings in the water and on Geyser Rock and African penguins on Dyer Island. The afternoon saw some fog rolling in off the sea, making for some difficult viewing conditions, we persisted and in the end, had some fantastic encounters with Southern Right whales. A very lucky day for us in general, with us finding whales on all our trips, always incredible to see the mothers with their calves. We finished the day heading back to the harbour with the sun setting.

A big thank you to all our guests that joined the Dyer Island Cruises team for the day out on the sea!
