Marine Big 5 Daily Blog 07 May

Whale Watching near Cape Town, South Africa Welcome to Gansbaai, home of the Marine Big 5.

Trip Summary 07 May 2024:

Welcoming our guests on our whale-watching vessel Dream Catcher, we left Kleinbaai Harbour behind us excited about what we might encounter today. Heading towards Danger Point we first investigated deeper waters. Along the way, we encountered several pelagic birds, including numerous Sooty Shearwaters. In an area called Pearly Beach, we were lucky to have spotted a Bryde’s whale! After spending some time around the whale we headed towards the island system. Entering Shark Alley we were met by several Cape fur seals playing in the cool waters, whereas others were relaxing on Geyser Rock. Moving on to Dyer Island we spotted some endangered African Penguins on the boulders. Heading back to Kleinbaai Harbour we were lucky to have encountered 3 rafts of Penguins in the water!
