Whale Watching near Cape Town, South Africa – Welcome to Gansbaai, home of the Marine Big 5.
Trip Summary 21 April 2025:
Due to the wind picking up later, the Marine Dynamics crew and guests started the day early. Welcoming everyone aboard Dream Catcher, we left the local harbour in Kleinbaai behind and started our adventure out at sea. Heading along the coastline, we made our way towards the area’s natural estuary. Ending up at our Shark cage diving vessel Slashfin, we got some great views of the incredible Bronze whaler sharks cutting through the surface. As a trip would not be complete without our mandatory stops by the island system, we approached Dyer Island, home to the critically endangered African Penguins. Sitting on top of the island, we made sure everyone would get a glimpse of the individuals. Entering Shark Alley, the Cape fur seals made themselves known quite quickly by their vocals. Most areas within deeper waters were rather quiet today until we encountered numerous Cape Gannets shooting into the water for a school of fish. A raft of African Penguins joined the Gannets, too! A sunfish, also called Mola Mola made a quick appearance before taking a deeper dive.

The Bronze whaler (also known as Copper sharks) here in Kleinbaai are very curious and interactive. These sharks eat mostly fish, with sardines being one of their favourites.
