Whale Watching near Cape Town, South Africa – Welcome to Gansbaai, home of the Marine Big 5.
Trip Summary 24 April 2025:
Another day filled with great marine life! Not long after we left Kleinbaai harbour, we spotted a big pod of common dolphins. They are great to watch, bow ride and often leap out of the water. In the same area, we got to see penguins and a Bryde’s whale. At the shark cage diving boats, it was still a little quiet, and after some time waiting, we moved on to see the Cape fur seals and Dyer Island.

What species did we see today?
Common Dolphin Common Dolphin
With an 'hourgalss' patch on either side and aerial activity the common dolphin is an agile and majestic species, that may easily reach a speed of 40km/h.

The mysterious Bryde's whales visit the Dyer Island area throughout the year, with most sightings occurring during summer into winter.

As one of only 17 penguin species left in the world (and the only one on the african continent), the african penguin often breed in offshore colonies, such as Dyer Island.
