Wildlife Wednesday at sea! Marine Big 5
Written by July 7 2021

After leaving Kleinbaai harbour we have seen a couple of penguins before finding some more seabirds off Danger Point. It took quite some time getting a good look at the humpback whales out in deeper water, as they took long dives. While waiting for the whales to come up we watched the seabirds around us. On our way to Geyser Rock and the Cape Fur seals we encountered a sunfish and after a closer stop at Dyer Island we made our way back home to Kleinbaai.
What species did we see today?
Humpback Whale Humpback Whale
One of the best-known whale species, they are renowned for their acrobatic behaviour and complex melodious song as well as extremely long flippers and are a special favourite of Dyer Island Cruises guests and crew alike.

With a local population of 60,000, it's no wonder our guests capture so many photographs of these wonderfully playful marine mammals.

As one of only 17 penguin species left in the world (and the only one on the african continent), the african penguin often breed in offshore colonies, such as Dyer Island.
