Written by May 4 2023
Whale Watching near Cape Town, South Africa Welcome to Gansbaai, home of the Marine Big 5.
Trip Summary 04 May 2023:
Out in the deeper waters of the bay today we sighted numerous Bryde’s whales which gave us a few looks before taking some deeper dives! We even spotted an Ocean Sunfish (Mola Mola) out in these waters. There was also some fantastic seabird activity including; Cape Gannets, Sooty Shearwater, Cory’s Shearwater, and White Chinned Petrels! The 60,000-strong Cape Fur seal colony on Geyser Rock was as inquisitive as ever and put on a show for everyone on board. By Dyer Island, we spotted the endangered African Penguins on land. At the shark cage diving boats, we got some great glimpses of Bronze Whaler sharks and even a Short-Tail stingray. As we cruised back to the harbour in some shallower coastal waters we were pleasantly surprised by an Indian Ocean Humpback dolphin which was incredibly calm around the boat!
