A Breaching Whale On The Winter Solstice, 21 June 2019
Wow, wow, wow, what a tour!

Today's Best Shots.

Sunrise on the shortest day of the year.

A scenic Danger Point with a reef breaking below.

The sky was stunning this morning.

A Shy Albatross, one of our avian friends, soaring by.

Look at this beautiful little whale.

This whale was breaching with his eyes open, checking us out.

Look at those backstroke moves. Humpback Whales are certainly champions in endurance, with the second longest migration of any whale in the world.

This little one really put on a show for us.

Humpback Whales have the longest flippers in the whale kingdom, up to 1/3 of the body length.

We also got a couple of full breaches from this playful little giant.

Another look at a full breach.

Showing off in perfect lighting.

Baleen whales have two blowholes, where as whales with teeth will only have one.

We had the most fantastic time with this Humpback before heading towards Slashfin.

A Copper Shark comes in for a closer look.

We also got to see a Great White Shark here.

The African Penguins were also out in abundance today.

An army of penguins marches along.

These birds look like they mean business.

Some Cape Fur Seals giving us a look.

The Prince Port.
What species did we see today?
Humpback Whale Humpback Whale
One of the best-known whale species, they are renowned for their acrobatic behaviour and complex melodious song as well as extremely long flippers and are a special favourite of Dyer Island Cruises guests and crew alike.
Great white sharks Great white sharks
Gracious, beautiful, misunderstood - three words used by guests of Dyer Island Cruises after witnessing South Africa's most infamous marine species: The Great White Shark.
Bronze Whaler Shark Bronze Whaler Shark
The Bronze whaler (also known as Copper sharks) here in Kleinbaai are very curious and interactive. These sharks eat mostly fish, with sardines being one of their favourites.
African Penguin African Penguin
As one of only 17 penguin species left in the world (and the only one on the african continent), the african penguin often breed in offshore colonies, such as Dyer Island.
Cape fur seal Cape fur seal
With a local population of 60,000, it's no wonder our guests capture so many photographs of these wonderfully playful marine mammals.
