A Friday on sea! Marine Big 5 daily blog
Written by March 13 2020
A slightly eerie start to the day as a blanket of fog covered the area however not long after launching this cleared and we had a stunning day on sea. We moved through the bay our eyes alert for any sign on marine life. The Island system was brimming with life, we entered Spongebay, next to Dyer Island and were treated to the sight of some African penguins, The Cape Fur seals were both on Geyser Rock and enjoying the pleasant day from the water and we spent some time watching these creatures frolic. We also encountered some seabirds whilst moving through Shark Alley including a high number of Giant petrels. One more stop by the Shallows before heading back to harbour in the hopes of seeing a shark and with a little bit of luck and good timing we were around when the shark cage diving vessel was approached by a Great White shark.
What species did we see today?

With a local population of 60,000, it's no wonder our guests capture so many photographs of these wonderfully playful marine mammals.

As one of only 17 penguin species left in the world (and the only one on the african continent), the african penguin often breed in offshore colonies, such as Dyer Island.

Gracious, beautiful, misunderstood - three words used by guests of Dyer Island Cruises after witnessing South Africa's most infamous marine species: The Great White Shark.
