Amazing encounters with southern right whales! Marine Big 5 Daily Blog
Written by October 3 2021
Today’s whale sightings have been fantastic on both tours. After a stop at the shark cage diving boats, we encountered a couple of southern right whales close to a reef system. We had several mothers and their calves around as well as two adults who approached our vessel during the first tour. On the second trip we also had some curious whales especially a calf who came a few times closer with its mother to have a look at us. Out at sea we also came across some penguins and plenty of Cape fur seals in Shark Alley.
What species did we see today?

As one of only 17 penguin species left in the world (and the only one on the african continent), the african penguin often breed in offshore colonies, such as Dyer Island.

With a local population of 60,000, it's no wonder our guests capture so many photographs of these wonderfully playful marine mammals.

The Bronze whaler (also known as Copper sharks) here in Kleinbaai are very curious and interactive. These sharks eat mostly fish, with sardines being one of their favourites.
