Beautiful day at sea! Marine Big 5 Daily Blog
Written by October 28 2021
Today’s tour started with a sighting on an Ostrich family at Die Gruis, we always like to cover the shallow areas of the bay but are not always lucky to see these large flightless birds. However, shortly after we spotted southern right whales. The female and her calf were very relaxed alongside our vessel and approached us too. Next up we stopped to see the sharks by Slashfin and continued to see the African Penguin and Cape fur seals. The second tour started with a stop to see the sharks and some whales afterwards. We also went to see the playful seals and all the seabirds on and around Dyer Island. Before we reached Kleinbaai harbour after a great tour we watched some more whales that we found in the bay.

What species did we see today?
African Penguin African Penguin
As one of only 17 penguin species left in the world (and the only one on the african continent), the african penguin often breed in offshore colonies, such as Dyer Island.
Cape fur seal Cape fur seal
With a local population of 60,000, it's no wonder our guests capture so many photographs of these wonderfully playful marine mammals.
Southern Right Whale Southern Right Whale
Southern right whales attract thousands of visitors every year to experience these gentle giants off the South African coast.
Bronze Whaler Shark Bronze Whaler Shark
The Bronze whaler (also known as Copper sharks) here in Kleinbaai are very curious and interactive. These sharks eat mostly fish, with sardines being one of their favourites.
