Brindle calf! Marine Big 5 daily blog
Written by September 30 2020
We used the weather gap this morning and were heading out to sea. Driving along the beautiful coast, we quickly arrived in the Pearly Beach area where we spotted some Southern Right whales. Having a closer look, we saw that the calf was brindle, only less than 3.5% are born like that. The mother and her calf were very relaxed around our boat and the enjoyed showing off, lifting their flukes up in the air and leaping out of the swell. Moving on from the whales we were heading towards Dyer Island and Geyser Rock. Before reaching the islands we made a stop as we spotted a African penguin in the water and after watching all the Cape Fur seals in Shark Alley we made our way around Dyer Island and slowly back to Kleinbaai harbour.
What species did we see today?

With a local population of 60,000, it's no wonder our guests capture so many photographs of these wonderfully playful marine mammals.
