Bronze Whaler Shark stars of the day, 10 January 2020
Written by Dickie Chivell, January 12 2020
Today we saw two Humpback dolphins during the trip. The pod has most likely split up to the next bays on our small part of the coast. The Bronze Whaler or Copper shark sightings were incredible and the Cape Fur seal colony on Geyser Rock is always a treat. We also saw some endangered African Penguins on Dyer Island.
We recently updated our Humpback dolphin catalogue by adding two new babies which is amazing for the rarest cetacean on our coastline.
Fun for the whole family!

What species did we see today?

Humpback dolphins are an endangered species, with small populations living very close to shore, typically in water less than 25m deep and an average home range of 120km. Their proximity to land makes these animals particularly vulnerable to human influence.

With a local population of 60,000, it's no wonder our guests capture so many photographs of these wonderfully playful marine mammals.

The Bronze whaler (also known as Copper sharks) here in Kleinbaai are very curious and interactive. These sharks eat mostly fish, with sardines being one of their favourites.
