Daily Trip Update, 11 December 2019
Written by December 11 2019
Another beautiful day to be out on the ocean! Our guests were treated to 3 of the Marine Big 5 species today, kicking it off with the Bronze Whaler Sharks around the cage diving vessels. The magnificent creatures were active and displaying their elegance in the water, we then headed out to see if we could spot some whales. After some searching and not being able to spot some, we headed to Geyser Rock to visit the Cape Fur Seals which were super playful and enjoying the beautiful weather this morning. This time of the year, the Cape Cormorants are taking over Dyer Island so we had to look a bit harder to spot the African Penguins nestled between them. The ride back to the harbour was scenic and we enjoyed every moment.
What species did we see today?
Bronze Whaler Shark Bronze Whaler Shark
The Bronze whaler (also known as Copper sharks) here in Kleinbaai are very curious and interactive. These sharks eat mostly fish, with sardines being one of their favourites.
African Penguin African Penguin
As one of only 17 penguin species left in the world (and the only one on the african continent), the african penguin often breed in offshore colonies, such as Dyer Island.

With a local population of 60,000, it's no wonder our guests capture so many photographs of these wonderfully playful marine mammals.
