Whale Watching near Cape Town, South Africa Welcome to Gansbaai, home of the Marine Big 5.
Trip Summary 16 August 2023:
Today we launched this morning from Gansbaai harbour due to spring tide. We made our way across the bay and were lucky to encounter a Southern Right whale on our way to Pearly Beach. As we were making our way to the island we had some fantastic Common dolphin sightings. On our second tour, we were slowly heading along the coast and were lucky to see the Common dolphins again! Arriving at Pearly Beach the luck continued as we found some Southern Right whales, with multiple adults seen in multiple locations close by. The luck with the Southern Right whales continued into the afternoon with our third and fourth trip encountering a number of Southern Right whales busy mating. All of our trips spent some time around the Islands, including visits to the always present Cape Fur seal colony of Geyser Rock and to Dyer Island to look at the seabirds and spot the African penguins.
A beautiful day out on the sea, thank you to all our guests for choosing to enjoy their marine experience with the Dyer Island Cruises Team.

Southern right whales attract thousands of visitors every year to experience these gentle giants off the South African coast.
African Penguin African Penguin
As one of only 17 penguin species left in the world (and the only one on the african continent), the african penguin often breed in offshore colonies, such as Dyer Island.
