Marie Big 5 Daily Blog 29 November

Whale Watching near Cape Town, South Africa Welcome to Gansbaai, home of the Marine Big 5.

Trip Summary 29 November 2022:

A fantastic day out in the bay with some stunning weather and sea conditions along with four out of the Marine Big 5 encountered. The sightings for the day included the Bronze whaler sharks that we were able to see in the Shallows at the shark cage diving vessels. The area around the islands was nice and calm allowing us a close look at Geyser Rock and the Cape Fur seal colony along with the Endangered African penguin colony of Dyer Island. One of the big highlights of the day was the Southern Right whale mother-calf pair that both our trips were lucky enough to encounter. Not only were we lucky to encounter them at all but this pair was calm and relaxed in the shallow, coastal waters as they moved slowly along, making frequent visits to the surface allowing us all a beautiful glimpse at these stunning creatures.
