Trip Summary 04 August 2026:
Today’s Marine Big 5 trips offered a wonderful variety of wildlife encounters, making for another memorable day at sea. Throughout the day, guests were treated to sightings of majestic humpback whales, while a southern right whale also made a welcome appearance along our coastline. A visit to Geyser Rock never disappoints, with the Cape fur seals entertaining everyone with their playful antics. Over on Dyer Island, the African penguins proudly showed off their iconic tuxedos as they went about their daily routines. One of the day’s highlights came when a humpback dolphin was spotted, providing a special and unforgettable encounter. To round off the day, a rare white morph giant petrel was seen soaring gracefully over the ocean, adding an extra touch of magic to an already incredible day.

What species did we see today?

One of the best-known whale species, they are renowned for their acrobatic behaviour and complex melodious song as well as extremely long flippers and are a special favourite of Dyer Island Cruises guests and crew alike.
