Whale Watching near Cape Town, South Africa – Welcome to Gansbaai, home of the Marine Big 5.
Trip Summary 07 August 2025:
Breaching , swimming, flying. It was an extraordinary day out at sea today from underwater giants to photogenic sea birds. Our day started as any other day we boarded our whale watching vessel, some from Gansbaai, due to spring tide, and ventured through the sea in search for marine life. Throughout all our trips we managed to spot humpback whales, amazing sightings as some of them decided to put on a show and breached. We stopped by Geyser rock to see the playful Cape fur seals as they swam around the vessel and even came closer with nothing but curiosity in their faces. We also stopped by the historic sea bird paradise, Dyer Island, to see if we could spot any penguins, and what would a marine big five trip be without sharks. We stopped by the Shark diving vessels to spot the glorious Bronze whaler shark. What a day filled with amazing marine life!

One of the best-known whale species, they are renowned for their acrobatic behaviour and complex melodious song as well as extremely long flippers and are a special favourite of Dyer Island Cruises guests and crew alike.

The Bronze whaler (also known as Copper sharks) here in Kleinbaai are very curious and interactive. These sharks eat mostly fish, with sardines being one of their favourites.
