Whale Watching near Cape Town, South Africa Welcome to Gansbaai, home of the Marine Big 5.
Trip Summary 11 December 2023:
We had another sunny day with great conditions at sea. After we launched from Kleinbaai we started our journey towards Uilenkraalsmond and further down the coastline. In the shallows, we stopped at the shark cage diving boat and were lucky to spot several Bronze Whaler sharks passing the cage. On the way to Dyer Island, we spotted a raft of 10 penguins and got to see even more closer to the Island itself, there was a group standing on the beach. Cruising through the famous Shark Alley we had a great time observing the Cape fur seals, both on land and in the water. Out of Shark Alley and half way to Danger Point we were lucky and spotted a spout of a whale, we immediately stopped and managed in the end to get some nice views of the Bryde’s whale.

What species did we see today?

As one of only 17 penguin species left in the world (and the only one on the african continent), the african penguin often breed in offshore colonies, such as Dyer Island.
Cape fur seal Cape fur seal
With a local population of 60,000, it's no wonder our guests capture so many photographs of these wonderfully playful marine mammals.
Bronze Whaler Shark Bronze Whaler Shark
The Bronze whaler (also known as Copper sharks) here in Kleinbaai are very curious and interactive. These sharks eat mostly fish, with sardines being one of their favourites.
Cape Cormorant Cape Cormorant
One of the most famous species of Cormorant in the Western Cape, the Cape Cormorant is well known for it's beautiful turquoise eye and impressive size.
