Whale Watching near Cape Town, South Africa – Welcome to Gansbaai, home of the Marine Big 5.
Trip Summary 11 October 2026:
We enjoyed a beautiful day out on the water, with lovely weather setting the scene for another memorable Marine Big 5 adventure! We were fortunate to spot southern right whales along the coastline, while plenty of Cape fur seals kept us entertained. The elephant seal was also still in the area, and we visited Dyer Island to see the African penguins and Cape cormorants. On some of our trips, we were treated to sightings of dolphins swimming through the ocean. Although fog rolled in during the afternoon, it didn’t affect our sightings, and we enjoyed another fantastic day at sea.

The Bronze whaler (also known as Copper sharks) here in Kleinbaai are very curious and interactive. These sharks eat mostly fish, with sardines being one of their favourites.
