After a few days on land we were finally able to head back out into the bay. On the morning trip it was quite a bit of search but we were lucky to encounter a southern right whale cow-calf pair in the shallows. We also spotted a penguin at sea and plenty of Cape Fur seals as well as Bronze whaler sharks at the cage diving boats.
On the second trip it was easier to locate he whale as we knew where to go and we left them earlier. On this trip we also visited the Cape Fur seals colony and spotted a couple of groups of penguins at sea. At the end we came across thousands of Cape Cormorant, what a sight!
What species did we see today?
Bronze Whaler Shark Bronze Whaler Shark
The Bronze whaler (also known as Copper sharks) here in Kleinbaai are very curious and interactive. These sharks eat mostly fish, with sardines being one of their favourites.
Southern Right Whale Southern Right Whale
Southern right whales attract thousands of visitors every year to experience these gentle giants off the South African coast.
African Penguin African Penguin
As one of only 17 penguin species left in the world (and the only one on the african continent), the african penguin often breed in offshore colonies, such as Dyer Island.
Cape fur seal Cape fur seal
With a local population of 60,000, it's no wonder our guests capture so many photographs of these wonderfully playful marine mammals.
