Marine Big 5 Daily Blog 13 February

Whale Watching near Cape Town, South Africa – Welcome to Gansbaai, home of the Marine Big 5.

Trip Summary 13 February 2026:

We experienced a bit of a cold day out at sea today, with some cloudy skies and a bit of swell, but that didn’t stop us from finding some amazing marine life. We had two trips heading out at sea today, both with their own amazing sightings. Our first trip was lucky enough to spot some Indian Ocean humpback dolphins in the bay, with the shy and elusive Bryde’s whale being seen on both. The Bryde’s whale lived up to its nature as it was a bit difficult get some good looks at it. Down by our local islands, the Endangered African Penguins were hidden in between the cormorants while the bustling Cape Fur Seals were having the time of their life in Shark Alley. The local Bronze Whaler sharks were observed near the shark diving vessels, with a surprise appearance of a raft of Penguins being spotted on our last trip, ending the day on a good note.
