Whale Watching near Cape Town, South Africa – Welcome to Gansbaai, home of the Marine Big 5.
Trip Summary 15 June 2025:
Another successful day out at sea, we boarded our whale watching vessel and started our adventurous marine trip by heading into deeper waters in search of marine life and with luck on our side, we saw a spout the moment we reached danger point. Three Bryde’s whales were going about their day, a few meters away from the vessel. Everyone enjoyed the sight of the Bryde’s whale as it arched its back out of the water and released a spout, creating a mesmerising sound that surrounded the atmosphere. Our trip was not done yet, so we then followed the coastline heading towards our shark diving vessel. On our way there, we managed to spot some ostriches from the nearby nature reserve. It was a lovely sight to see. When we approached the shark diving vessel, the visibility was outstanding, giving everyone the chance to get a better look at the Bronze whaler sharks as their copper colouring shimmered underneath the surface. We then stopped by our local kelp forest to grab a piece of kelp so that everyone could get a better look at it before visiting Dyer Island and Geyser Rock, where we managed to spot some African penguins and get a look at the Cape fur seals.

The Bronze whaler (also known as Copper sharks) here in Kleinbaai are very curious and interactive. These sharks eat mostly fish, with sardines being one of their favourites.
