Whale Watching near Cape Town, South Africa – Welcome to Gansbaai, home of the Marine Big 5.
Trip Summary 17 July 2026:
Despite the overcast skies, today’s Marine Big 5 tours were filled with unforgettable wildlife encounters that more than made up for the weather. IN the shallow water of the bay, the bronze whaler sharks were seen around the shark cage diving vessels. At Dyer Island, we spotted the critically endangered African penguins going about their daily activities along the shoreline. A visit to nearby Geyser Rock was, as always, a highlight, with thousands of Cape fur seals filling the island with energy and excitement. The first trip of the day enjoyed a special sighting of a southern right whale mother and her calf. Out in the deeper waters, the excitement continued when humpback whales put on a spectacular display. Several breathtaking breaches thrilled us as these giants launched themselves out of the water before crashing back into the ocean. Our second trip was also spoiled by a sunfish sighting close to Danger Point. What a day at sea!

What species did we see today?
