Marine Big 5 Daily Blog

We had some wind throughout the day, but fantastic sightings on both tours. Throughout the tour we encountered a variety of marine wildlife, starting with some sharks at the shark cage diving boats. On our way and in the Pearly Beach area we had plenty of southern right whales, no matter where you looked there were whales all around. On the first tour we had a special and close encounter of a southern right investigating our vessel and on the second tour we had several breaches around the boat and whales spy hopping. Geyser Rock seemed not as packed with probably most seals out at sea hunting for food. We also got to see some penguins begore returning back to Kleinbaai.
What species did we see today?
African Penguin African Penguin
As one of only 17 penguin species left in the world (and the only one on the african continent), the african penguin often breed in offshore colonies, such as Dyer Island.
Southern Right Whale Southern Right Whale
Southern right whales attract thousands of visitors every year to experience these gentle giants off the South African coast.
Cape fur seal Cape fur seal
With a local population of 60,000, it's no wonder our guests capture so many photographs of these wonderfully playful marine mammals.
Cape Cormorant Cape Cormorant
One of the most famous species of Cormorant in the Western Cape, the Cape Cormorant is well known for it's beautiful turquoise eye and impressive size.
