Whale Watching near Cape Town, South Africa – Welcome to Gansbaai, home of the Marine Big 5.
Trip Summary 18 September 2025:
After three days of not being able to head to sea we are finally back and ready! With some swell but very little wind we welcomed our guests aboard and left Kleinbaai Harbour behind us starting the lookout for wildlife straight away. Our seasonal visitors welcomed us straight back as it did not take us long to find them within our bay. To say the least, some even were treated to rather active individuals! A visit to the Shark cage diving boats granted us some looks at the Bronze whaler sharks of the area cutting the surface with their copper colored dorsal fins. A stop around the island system is a must as we cannot miss a visit of Dyer Island and its population of the critically endangered African Penguins. Once entering Shark Alley the Cape fur seals on Geyser Rock welcomed us back with their load vocals and either following the boat up and down the alley or watching us pass by while enjoying the sun.

As one of only 17 penguin species left in the world (and the only one on the african continent), the african penguin often breed in offshore colonies, such as Dyer Island.
Bronze Whaler Shark Bronze Whaler Shark
The Bronze whaler (also known as Copper sharks) here in Kleinbaai are very curious and interactive. These sharks eat mostly fish, with sardines being one of their favourites.

With a local population of 60,000, it's no wonder our guests capture so many photographs of these wonderfully playful marine mammals.

Southern right whales attract thousands of visitors every year to experience these gentle giants off the South African coast.
