Whale Watching near Cape Town, South Africa Welcome to Gansbaai, home of the Marine Big 5.
Trip Summary 19 August 2024:
We had a great day on the ocean with fantastic sightings of cape fur seals, seabirds and the famous southern right whales visiting our coast each year. After passing the shark cage diving boats in the shallows, we moved towards Pearly Beach where we found multiple southern right whales. Some were close to shore between the swell rolling through whereas some adults were in deeper waters and giving us some great looks of their flukes. On our way back towards Kleinbaai we visited Shark Alley and saw thousands of Cape fur seals on Geyser Rock and hundreds in the water swimming. They were very curious and swam alongside us poking their head out of the water to get a bit of a better look at us. Some of us have also been lucky to spot a few penguins at sea today.

With a local population of 60,000, it's no wonder our guests capture so many photographs of these wonderfully playful marine mammals.

The Bronze whaler (also known as Copper sharks) here in Kleinbaai are very curious and interactive. These sharks eat mostly fish, with sardines being one of their favourites.
