Whale Watching near Cape Town, South Africa Welcome to Gansbaai, home of the Marine Big 5.
Trip Summary 20 August 2023:
We had our last bit of good weather for the next few days and we took full advantage of that! We had two amazing tours with incredible wildlife in the water and amazing people on board. For the first trip, we headed straight to Pearly Beach not to waste our time and it paid off as we came across a mating group of Southern Right whales almost straight away. The wind started picking up as the day progressed but that didn’t stop us from enjoying the wildlife. The second trip was just as lucky as the first and found the whales not too long into the trip, experiencing some slow, relaxed behaviour as we happily watched these gentle giants. A lone Humpback whale was seen on our way to the Islands during this second trip, whilst breaching twice when we first saw it, it then went shy and disappeared quickly. For both trips, we also visited Geyser Rock full of playful Cape Fur seals, and also popped by Dyer Island to spot some African penguins on land.
