Marine Big 5 Daily Blog 20 September

Whale Watching near Cape Town, South Africa Welcome to Gansbaai, home of the Marine Big 5.

Trip Summary 20 September 2024:

The early bird catches the worm was suiting our first trip. We launched early out of Kleinbaai Harbour due to the tide, which made us return to Gansbaai Harbour. For the second trip, we followed our normal procedure to launch and return to Kleinbaai Harbour. Welcoming both trips aboard Dream Catcher we headed further into the bay excited about today’s sightings. We managed to spot 4 out of the Marine Big 5: whales, sharks, seals and penguins! Heading into different areas of the bay we got some great looks of our seasonal visitors the Southern Right whales. A few pairs around the area gave us some nice possibilities to watch these gentle giants. Not too far off, we got a glimpse of the highly active Bronze whaler sharks investigating the Marine Dynamics divers in the cage. Cape fur seals were seen on Geyser Rock or Shark Alley having a great time relaxing and playing and even some young males were seen getting into play fights. last but not least some of the endangered African Penguins could be seen on Dyer Island or as a raft in the open while our guests learned more about the island’s history.
