Whale Watching near Cape Town, South Africa Welcome to Gansbaai, home of the Marine Big 5.
Trip Summary 23 July 2023:
A busy day on the sea with some wild, Winter conditions coming through the bay. Even though it was a bit choppy we got lucky with whale sightings on all of our trip. This included a mix of species and groups including multiple individual Humpback whales, a Southern Right whale mother/calf pair, a lone Southern Right whale, and later on a pair of adult Southern Right whales cruising together. Each trip made visits to the Islands for a closer look at the Cape fur seal colony of Geyser Rock along with the African penguins of Dyer Island. The day was also filled with a number of seabird sightings including but not limited to Albatross, Oystercatchers, and Skuas. Whilst we tried our best to view some sharks at our sister company Marine Dynamics, it appeared to be a slow day for shark sightings in the bay and we were not able to see any. All round a wet, wild and whale-y day out in the bay!
